Dr. Pritesh Kumar earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, with a focus in cannabinoid pharmacology, from the University of Louisville. Currently, Dr. Kumar is the CEO of PhytoSciences and leads a team of 40+ global scientists / physicians with a primary focus of developing safe, consistent, and pure medicinal cannabinoid-based therapeutics. Overall, Dr. Kumar’s experience and expertise lead the product development operations at PhytoSciences and their team consults in the areas of providing support for Clinical Trial Solutions, R & D, manufacturing and processing, and laboratory development pertaining to cannabinoid-based therapeutics. Dr. Kumar presently serves on several Scientific Advisory Boards for pharmaceutical companies focused on developing new safe and effective therapeutics from natural products.
Dr. Kumar is a cannabinoid research scientist and consultant trained in ensuring Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), current Good Production Practices (GPP), and current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP) of pharmaceutical products and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). As Cannabinoid Pharmacologist and Laboratory Manager since 2009 at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, Pritesh has conducted medical cannabinoid research as it pertains to the cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2). He has received numerous honors and awards including Best Oral Presentation from the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS) Conference in Vancouver and fellowships from Drug Discovery and Target in Boston and Integrated Programs in Biomedical Sciences (IPIBS) as well as travel awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and University of Louisville School of Medicine for his presentations in the U.S., Canada, Italy, and Germany. Dr. Kumar’s research pertains to the pharmacological testing of FDA approved drugs as potential ligands for CB2 and investigates the pharmacology of several cannabinoids for CB2.
Dr. Kumar served as the Scientific Advisor to the Kentucky State Legislature and advised on issues pertaining to the development of effective medical cannabis policies. In addition, he has prepared several legislative documents for the proper implementation of a QA system with regard to cannabis manufacturing and processing. Dr. Kumar also consults for several government officials across multiple states in addition to international governments and policy officials. Dr. Kumar in coordination with PhytoSciences is in active consultative status with the Department of Economic and Social Affairs at the United Nations where his work focuses on developing a knowledge management system for best practices regarding global medical cannabis policies pertaining to QA/QC and safe production of products for South American Governments.
Dr. Kumar has been published in numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals (click here for list of recent publications) including the European Journal of Pharmacology, Pharmacology and Physiology, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science and Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications. He is an active member of the International Association for Cannabis as Medicine (IACM), and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) of the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Kumar is a member of the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS), American Society of Cell Biology (ASCB) and National Glaucoma Society (NGS) and was a member of the University of Louisville’s Technology Sub-committee.
